GRG Column CasingsTechnical Specifications

DESCRIPTION
GRG circular column casings clad around H section steel columns or cast concrete columns as an aesthetic decorative finish. The completed casing is not structural. Circular casings are manufactured in two halves – or more depending upon height - with a rebated vertical joint. All joints to be filled on site to give a smooth invisible finish. The completed casings are decorated by other trades. GRG casings are available in any diameter or bespoke profile with any combination of head or base detail as required.

MANUFACTURE DETAILS
The GRG casings are to be hand laminated from high quality hard calcium sulphate hemihydrate casting plasters, reinforced with a minimum of two layers of continuous filament glass fibre matt, and lightweight metal reinforcement sections. The finish of the GRG casings is to be a smooth surface free from zinc lines and deformations and suitable to receive a paint finish by others. All casings are to be identified by a unique reference label indicating the project name, cast reference and date of manufacture, for quality control purposes.

PERFORMANCE
The weight of the GRG shall vary depending upon thickness but will be between 10-20kg/m2. The thickness of the GRG casings will vary but will be between 5-15mm thick.- excluding reinforcement ribs. The minimum compressive strength of the GRG casings when dry will be 14.0 MN/m2 The maximum linear expansion of the casing during setting will be 0.3% Joints should not be considered air or watertight. The casings should not be installed in areas of excessive humidity or external situations.

ACCESSORIES
GRG casings are to have a head detail Ref HA, HB or HC as indicated in Ryedale Interiors Ltd literature. GRG casings are to have a base detail Ref BA, BB or BC as indicated in Ryedale Interiors Ltd literature. GRG casings can be supplied complete with a brushed stainless steel skirting section as indicated in Ryedale Interiors Ltd literature.

FINISHES
All face fixings and rebated joint details to be filled smooth and made good on site to give a seamless invisible finish. On completion the GRG casings are to receive a sealer coat by the decorator prior to two coats of matt emulsion or oil based satin finish paint.

MOVEMENT JOINTS
Where required, these are to be detailed by the Manufacturer and are to incorporate flexible junctions to accommodate the movement joint within the GRG casts and the supporting framework.

WORKMANSHIP
All site fixing work to be carried out by suitably trained and NVQ accredited GRG installers. Support framework to be installed by and as recommended by the manufacturer to suit the individual circumstances of the installation. Fixing and jointing details to be as recommended by the manufacturer Ryedale Interiors Ltd. All materials are to be handled in a safe manner to avoid unnecessary damage and are to be stored off the ground in a dry location away from excessive site traffic. GRG casings should only be installed after the building has been made watertight.
